Street Fighter V Screenshots and Artwork from E3 2015 Show Birdie and Cammy

Capcom showcased Street Fighter V at E3 2015 with a collection of new screenshots and character artwork, confirming two more fighters for the game’s roster: the veteran agent Cammy and the returning brawler Birdie. The images provide a detailed look at their updated designs and move sets, alongside glimpses of the game’s new V-System mechanics.

Cammy and Birdie Join the Fight

Cammy returns with her signature look, including her green leotard, red beret, and gauntlets. The new screenshots capture her in action, executing classic special moves like the Cannon Spike and Cannon Strike. Her design in Street Fighter V appears to be a faithful evolution of her established appearance, maintaining the speed and acrobatic style she is known for.

Birdie’s inclusion marks his first appearance in a mainline Street Fighter title since the Alpha series. His character has been completely redesigned with a much larger, heavier physique and a prominent gut, a significant departure from his more muscular build in previous games. His punk-rock aesthetic remains, complete with a mohawk and chains. The images show him using his chains for attacks and performing his Bull Horn headbutt, along with a powerful-looking Critical Art where he entangles his opponent.

A Glimpse at the New V-System

The screenshots released at the event also offered the first look at one of Street Fighter V’s core gameplay additions: the V-System. Specific images were labeled to show both Cammy and Birdie using their unique V-Skill and V-Trigger abilities. While the full extent of this system was not detailed, it was presented as a new layer of character-specific strategy. Each fighter possesses a unique V-Skill, a defensive or offensive maneuver, and a V-Trigger, a temporary power-up that enhances their abilities or unlocks new moves. The images depicted these moves with distinct visual effects, signaling their importance in battle.

The Confirmed Roster

With the addition of Cammy and Birdie, the confirmed roster for Street Fighter V at the time of E3 2015 stood at six characters. They joined the previously announced lineup of series mainstays Ryu and Chun-Li, the antagonist M. Bison, and the resurrected Charlie Nash. The screenshots also featured these characters, displaying some of their signature abilities, such as Ryu’s Critical Art, Nash’s Sonic Boom, and Chun-Li’s Spinning Bird Kick. Capcom stated that more characters would be revealed in the months leading up to the game’s launch.

Street Fighter V was announced for a Spring 2016 release on PlayStation 4 and PC, with cross-platform play planned between the two systems.
