Error codes, decoded
Your console is reporting an error reading the disc or accessing data from the hard drive.
An error occurred during a system software update.
PlayStation Network is not reachable from the console because the service itself is unavailable. The code appears on many consoles at the same time during PSN outages and maintenance and is not listed in Sony's own error-code index.
Storage planner
Pick your games, see if they fit on 825 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB. The planner works with the usable space after the system reserve, using the same file sizes as the database.

Which M.2 drives meet Sony's speed and height limits, and which need a heatsink.
Which pads, sticks and wheels work on which console: natively, with an adapter, or not at all.

Guides that hold up
What Game Idealist covers
Game Idealist has covered console gaming since 2014: hardware, releases and the numbers behind them. The site is built around three things people actually look up: console game file sizes before a download, error codes when a console refuses to cooperate, and hardware compatibility before money changes hands. Around that core sit the Game Idealist guides: walkthroughs, farming routes and fixes for games that keep getting played years after release.
The file-size database lists install sizes per platform with the date each figure was last confirmed against the store listing, so a number from 2021 is labelled as such rather than passed off as current. Sizes for the same title differ from platform to platform, and the difference is often larger than the day-one patch: exactly why the database shows every confirmed figure side by side. Total: 454 confirmed console game file sizes and counting.
The error-code index goes beyond the code itself. CE-30005-8, SU-42481-9 and WS-37398-0 are the three most-searched PlayStation codes, and each has a page that says what the console is actually complaining about, which of the usual steps tends to work first, and whether the problem is on your side or a PlayStation Network outage nobody can fix at home.
Hardware pages are compatibility sheets, not shopping lists. The PS5 SSD checker applies Sony's own requirements (PCIe 4.0, the 5,500 MB/s recommendation, the 11.25 mm height limit with heatsink) to real drives. The controller matrix does the same for pads, fight sticks and wheels across PS5, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC. And the Game Idealist guides section keeps the long-form pieces: Breath of the Wild star fragment routes, the Persona 5 Royal lottery, Bloodborne chalice dungeons, Forza Horizon 5 settings — the kind of pages that still answer a question in 2026.
Questions about the data
Where do the file sizes on Game Idealist come from?
Each install size is read from the platform holder's own store listing or the publisher's official page, then dated. Xbox sizes come from the Microsoft Store catalogue and PC sizes from Steam; platforms whose stores publish no machine-readable figure are added as documented listings appear. The "last checked" date on every row tells you when the figure was last confirmed.
Why does the same game show different sizes on PS5 and Xbox Series X?
Compression, texture packages and optional language packs differ per platform. A PS5 build usually installs smaller than the Xbox Series X build of the same game because the Kraken compression on PS5 is applied to more of the package, and because Xbox often bundles the Series S assets in the same download.
What does an error code like CE-30005-8 mean?
The letters give away the subsystem: CE codes are console-side errors (disc, drive, system), SU codes are system-update failures, WS and NP codes point at PlayStation Network. Each code page on Game Idealist explains the meaning in plain words and lists the fix steps in the order that actually resolves it most often.
Does the storage planner account for the system reserve?
Yes. A PS5 with an 825 GB drive gives you about 667 GB of usable space; a 1 TB Slim gives about 848 GB. The planner works with those usable figures, not the marketing capacity, so the answer to "will it fit" is the real one.
How often are Game Idealist guides updated?
Data pages (file sizes, error codes, hardware compatibility) are re-checked on a rolling schedule and show a date. Long-form guides carry an updated date at the top; older pieces stay online because the games they cover still get played, but the date tells you the state of the information.
Can I request a game or an error code?
Yes: the contact page takes requests. Games with an official store listing are added quickly; error codes are added once a documented fix exists, so the page is worth more than the code itself.
