Custom Days Gone Audio Profile Added for PlayStation Platinum, Gold, and Silver Headsets

A custom audio profile for the open-world survival game Days Gone was released for official PlayStation headsets. The profile became available through an update to the Headset Companion App on the PlayStation 4, allowing owners of the PlayStation Platinum, Gold, and Silver models to experience the game with a sound mix tuned by developer Sony Bend.

The Headset Companion App and Supported Hardware

The Headset Companion App is a free application available for download from the PlayStation Store. Its purpose is to manage and load custom audio EQs onto compatible first-party headsets. Upon launching the app after the update, the Days Gone profile was automatically added to the list of available game presets. Users could then select the profile and transfer it to their connected headset.

The profile supported a range of official hardware. The PlayStation Gold and Silver headsets both feature 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound, a technology that simulates a multi-channel speaker setup to provide players with positional audio cues. This helps in identifying the direction of threats, such as approaching Freakers or enemy survivors.

The premium PlayStation Platinum headset also supports 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound but adds proprietary 3D Audio technology. This feature creates a more encompassing soundscape by adding a vertical dimension, allowing players to perceive sounds from above and below. The custom Days Gone profile was designed to take advantage of these features, creating a more immersive experience tailored to the hardware’s capabilities.
