Discounts on PS4 Camera, DualShock 4 Controllers and Official Headsets

In February 2017, Amazon listed several first-party PlayStation 4 accessories with significant price reductions. The sale included the PlayStation 4 Camera, the updated model of the DualShock 4 controller in multiple colors, and two official Sony gaming headsets. These discounts provided an opportunity for PS4 owners to acquire official hardware for well below the standard retail price.

Updated DualShock 4 Controllers

Two versions of the updated DualShock 4 wireless controller were part of the sale. This controller model, CUH-ZCT2, launched alongside the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro consoles in late 2016. The most notable change from the original controller was a thin sliver at the top of the touchpad that allowed the light bar’s glow to be seen by the player. This provided immediate visual feedback for in-game cues without needing to tilt the controller. The updated model also enabled data communication over a USB cable, allowing for a wired connection that could reduce input latency.

The standard Updated Jet Black DualShock 4 was discounted by 25%. The Updated Magma Red DualShock 4 saw an even larger price cut of 30%. These colors were popular choices, offering a classic look and a more vibrant alternative for players looking to personalize their setup or add extra controllers for local multiplayer.

PlayStation 4 Camera

The PlayStation 4 Camera was also featured in the sale, with a 34% discount. The camera was a key component for the PlayStation VR system, which had been released a few months prior in October 2016. It tracks the movement of the VR headset, the DualShock 4’s light bar, and PlayStation Move motion controllers to enable immersive virtual reality experiences. Beyond its use in VR, the camera allowed for other system-level features. Players could use it for facial recognition to log into their PS4 profiles, issue voice commands to navigate the console’s interface, and broadcast themselves in picture-in-picture format while streaming gameplay. Games like The Playroom, which came pre-installed on the PS4, used the camera for augmented reality mini-games.

Official PlayStation Headsets

Two of Sony’s official headsets were heavily discounted. The PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset was available for 32% off its regular price. This model was a popular choice for its 7.1 virtual surround sound, which provided greater audio immersion in supported games. It connected to the PS4 wirelessly via a USB dongle and featured a built-in, noise-canceling microphone for clear voice chat. Custom audio modes, created by developers for specific games, could be downloaded to the headset via a companion app.

A much larger discount was applied to the PlayStation Silver Wired Stereo Headset, which was reduced by 61%. As a wired model, it connected directly to the DualShock 4 controller’s 3.5mm audio jack. Despite its lower price point, it also offered virtual surround sound. The Silver headset was a more straightforward, plug-and-play audio solution for gamers who preferred the reliability of a wired connection or were looking for a more affordable option than the premium Gold model.
