LittleBigPlanet 3 PS4 Cover Art Updated to Show Day 1 and Plush Edition Content

The PlayStation 4 box art for LittleBigPlanet 3 received an update ahead of its release, changing the cover to highlight its “Day 1 Edition” content. This special launch version bundled the game with nine additional in-game costumes, drawing from both popular PlayStation franchises and a major multiplatform title. The previous cover was a simpler design, while the new art prominently features a banner detailing the bonus digital content available to early adopters.

Day 1 Edition Bonus Costumes

The Day 1 Edition’s main draw was its collection of nine exclusive costumes. This content was divided into two themed packs. The first was the “4 The Players Pack,” a clear nod to Sony’s marketing slogan for the PlayStation 4. This pack featured outfits based on four of PlayStation’s most recognizable characters from the era. Players could dress their Sackperson as Delsin Rowe, the conduit protagonist from Sucker Punch’s inFamous: Second Son, or as Ellie, the resourceful survivor from Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed title, The Last of Us. The pack also included a costume based on the iconic Helghast soldier from Guerrilla Games’ Killzone series and an outfit for Nathan Drake, the treasure-hunting hero of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted franchise.

The second set of costumes came from a collaboration with Electronic Arts and BioWare. It included five outfits based on the then-upcoming fantasy role-playing game, Dragon Age: Inquisition. This crossover allowed players to bring the world of Thedas into LittleBigPlanet 3, offering a unique blend of platforming creativity with the aesthetic of a highly anticipated RPG. This partnership demonstrated the broad appeal of the LittleBigPlanet series, capable of incorporating characters from vastly different genres and publishers into its customizable world.

LittleBigPlanet 3 Plush Edition

For collectors and dedicated fans, Sony also revealed a new look at the LittleBigPlanet 3 Plush Edition. A product photo provided a three-dimensional view of the special edition’s packaging, showcasing its contents more clearly. The main physical item in this bundle was a six-inch plush toy of Sackboy, the series’ lovable and iconic protagonist.

In addition to the plush collectible, the Plush Edition included a physical copy of the PlayStation 4 game. It also contained all the digital bonus content from the Day 1 Edition, ensuring that buyers of this premium version received the “4 The Players Pack” and the Dragon Age: Inquisition costume set. This edition was aimed at players who wanted both a physical memento of the game and the complete set of launch-day digital extras.

Release and Platform Focus

LittleBigPlanet 3 was scheduled for a November 18 launch on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. Despite the dual-platform release, Sony’s marketing and promotional materials appeared to heavily favor the PS4 version. The detailed preorder bonuses, such as the Day 1 Edition costumes, were primarily advertised for the newer console. This strategy suggested a focus on using established franchises like LittleBigPlanet to encourage players to transition from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4, which was entering its second year on the market.
