Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was first released for the mobile platform in 2008 before being ported to the Nintendo Wii. It was also part of Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection on the PSP that was released in 2011.

A 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years was released for iOS and Android on November 25, 2013. The same version is being ported to the PC this year on the 12th of May.

The direct sequel has many of the same core gameplay features from the original. With that said, it does add some interesting twists, including the effects the different moon phases have over attacks and enemies. Similar to Chrono Trigger, gamers can also combine the actions of two or more party members to create a powerful strike.
