How to See the Horsepower and Other Stats for a Car in Forza Horizon 5

Knowing a car’s horsepower is essential for tuning and competing in Forza Horizon 5. While the game features hundreds of vehicles, finding their specific performance metrics isn’t always obvious. The process is straightforward once you know where to look, and this information is available in several different menus throughout the game.

Checking Horsepower in the Garage

The most common place to check the stats for a car you already own is in the My Cars menu. This screen gives a quick overview of every vehicle in your collection.

To access it, first bring up the main game menu. On an Xbox controller, this is done by pressing the Menu button (the one with three horizontal lines). From there, navigate to the Cars tab at the top of the screen by pressing the RB button. In the Cars tab, select the Change Car option to view your full garage.

Once you are in the My Cars screen, you will see a grid of your owned vehicles. Use the left analog stick or D-pad to highlight the car you want to inspect. • Autoshow: When browsing cars to buy, you can view their stock specifications. After selecting a manufacturer and highlighting a car, choose the View Car option. This takes you to a showroom view where the vehicle’s stats are displayed prominently on the left, just as they are in the garage menu. You can use the right analog stick to cycle through the detailed stats before committing to a purchase.
• Auction House: When bidding on cars from other players, you need to know what you’re getting. Select any listing and choose the View Car option. This will show its current stats. It is important to check here, as many cars in the Auction House have been modified. The stats displayed will reflect any installed upgrades, giving you a clear picture of its performance level, not just its stock capabilities.
• Upgrades & Tuning Menu: This is the most practical place to monitor horsepower. When you enter the Upgrades & Tuning section for any car, the performance stats are always visible on the left. As you browse and apply parts like new engine components, turbos, or exhaust systems, you can watch the Power stat change in real-time. This immediate feedback is critical for building a car that meets the specific Performance Index (PI) requirements for a race series.

Understanding the Performance Stats Display

The numbers shown for each car tell a detailed story about its capabilities. Understanding them is the first step to becoming a skilled tuner. The game breaks stats down into two main categories.

First are the five general ratings, scored on a 1.0 to 10.0 scale:

• Speed: The car’s theoretical top speed.
• Handling: How well the car can take corners at speed without losing grip.
• Acceleration: How quickly the car can reach its top speed.
• Launch: The car’s ability to accelerate from a complete standstill, factoring in traction.
• Braking: The car’s ability to slow down effectively.

Second are the specific engineering metrics, which you can see by toggling the display with the right stick:

• Power: Measured in Brake Horsepower (BHP), this is the raw power output of the engine.
• Torque: Measured in LB-FT, this represents the rotational force of the engine. High torque is beneficial for acceleration, especially in heavier vehicles.
• Weight: The car’s total mass in pounds (LBS). Lighter cars are generally more nimble and accelerate faster.
• Front %: The percentage of the car’s total weight that is over the front wheels. This affects handling balance.
• Displacement: The volume of the engine’s cylinders, measured in liters (L).

At the top of the stats panel is the Performance Index (PI), a number that summarizes the car’s overall performance and places it into a class (D, C, B, A, S1, S2, X). Upgrading parts, especially those that add horsepower, will increase a car’s PI. Many online races and seasonal events restrict entries to a specific PI class, so managing your car’s power and other attributes to stay within a certain limit is a core part of the game.
