Spyro Reignited Trilogy Digital Version File Size for Xbox One

The Microsoft Store product page for Spyro Reignited Trilogy revealed the game’s required storage space on Xbox One. Ahead of its release, the listing showed that the digital version of the remastered collection would take up 36.32 GB of hard drive space. The game was scheduled to launch in North America on November 13, 2018.

What’s Included in the Trilogy

The Reignited Trilogy is a comprehensive remaster of the first three games in the Spyro series, which originally launched on the first PlayStation console. Developed by Toys for Bob, the collection features a complete graphical and audio overhaul, rebuilding the classic adventures for a modern audience. The trilogy includes:

• Spyro the Dragon (1998): The game that started it all. Spyro, a young purple dragon, embarks on a quest through the Dragon Realms to free his fellow dragons, who have been trapped in crystal by the villainous Gnasty Gnorc.

• Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! (1999): While attempting to take a vacation, Spyro is accidentally summoned to the fantasy world of Avalar. There, he must help its inhabitants defeat the tyrannical warlock Ripto and his minions, Crush and Gulp.

• Spyro: Year of the Dragon (2000): The Dragon Realms face a new threat when the evil Sorceress and her Rhynoc army steal all the dragon eggs. Spyro travels to the Forgotten Realms to recover them, teaming up with new playable characters like Sheila the Kangaroo and Sgt. James Byrd.

The collection promised to let players explore the expansive worlds and re-encounter the fiery personalities from the original games, all presented in high definition.

Physical Edition Download Requirement

While the 36.32 GB file size applied directly to the digital download, it was also relevant for those who planned to purchase the physical disc. Publisher Activision had previously confirmed that the retail version of Spyro Reignited Trilogy would ship with only the first game, Spyro the Dragon, on the disc. To access Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, players would need to download a day-one update.

This meant that even physical copy owners had to have a significant amount of free space available on their Xbox One console. The required download made the storage footprint for both the digital and physical versions quite similar. This practice was becoming more common for collections and large games, where not all content could fit on a single Blu-ray disc or to accommodate ongoing development closer to the launch date.

Whether purchasing from the Microsoft Store or a retail outlet, players needed to prepare for a substantial installation. For a collection containing three full games, the total size was comparable to many single AAA releases of the time, making it a relatively efficient package. However, with other major titles demanding large installations, managing console storage was a key consideration for Xbox One owners in late 2018.
