Nintendo Switch Download Sizes for Nights of Azure 2, Just Dance 2018, and More

The download sizes for several Nintendo Switch games released on October 24, 2017, appeared on the eShop, giving players a clear idea of the storage space required. The titles included the action RPG Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, the dancing game Just Dance 2018, the strategy title This is the Police, and the 3D platformer Poi: Explorer Edition.

Mid-Sized Downloads for RPG and Dance Titles

Among the new releases, Just Dance 2018 required the most space, with a file size of 6.9 GB. Close behind was Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon, which occupied 6.8 GB of storage. While not as large as some of the console’s biggest triple-A releases, these file sizes were significant for the Nintendo Switch’s internal memory.

The console ships with 32 GB of internal storage, with approximately 25.9 GB actually available to the user after accounting for the operating system. A single download of either Just Dance 2018 or Nights of Azure 2 would have used up more than a quarter of this default space. For players building a digital library, this highlighted the potential need for storage expansion early in the console’s life.

Smaller Indie Game Sizes

Two other titles released the same day required considerably less storage. The strategy-adventure game This is the Police clocked in at exactly 1.0 GB. This made it a more manageable download for those with limited space. Even smaller was Poi: Explorer Edition, a 3D platformer that took up just 889 MB.

These smaller file sizes represented a different segment of the eShop catalog, where many independent games could be downloaded without immediately forcing players to juggle their installed software. However, even a collection of several one-gigabyte games could quickly fill the remaining space on a Switch after a larger title was installed.

Storage Management and Physical Options

All four games were released in North America on October 24, 2017. For players concerned about digital storage, both Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon and Just Dance 2018 were also sold as physical cartridges. Opting for a physical copy was a practical way to conserve the console’s internal memory for game saves, software updates, and digital-only titles.

In contrast, Poi: Explorer Edition and This is the Police were digital-only releases at the time, making an eShop download the only option. The situation underscored the utility of Micro SD cards, which allow Switch owners to expand their storage capacity significantly. For anyone planning to purchase multiple digital games, an SD card was an essential accessory to avoid running out of room.
