Turtle Beach Recon Gaming Headsets: 200 vs. 50 vs. 60P vs. Camo Features Comparison

Compatibility

The Turtle Beach Recon 50 series is compatible with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and mobile platforms. The 50P is PlayStation-branded while the 50X is Xbox-branded; both of these are multiplatform as they will work with other platforms not mentioned on their boxes.

The Turtle Beach Recon 60P was made specifically for the PlayStation 4. While you can also use this headset on the PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and mobile platforms via the included 3.5mm audio cable, you won’t be able to take advantage of its amplified audio feature.

The Turtle Beach Recon Camo is compatible with the PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, Mac and mobile platforms.

The Turtle Beach Recon 200 is also compatible with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac and mobile platforms.

For Nintendo Switch players, it should be noted that the microphones on these headsets will only work with Switch games that support in-game chat.

What’s in the Box

The Recon 50 comes with the headset, removable microphone as well as a starter guide.

The Recon 60P has the gaming headset, Recon 60P Amplifier in addition to a quick start guide.

The Recon Camo includes the headset, removable mic, starter guide and Turtle Beach sticker.

Last but not least, the Recon 200 has the gaming headset, micro USB charging cable, quick start guide and Turtle Beach sticker.

Audio Connection

All four headsets use a 3.5mm audio cable to connect to the player’s preferred platforms of choice. As we mentioned above, the 60p uses a USB cable to connect to the PlayStation 4 for amplified audio.
Speaker Frequency Response

The Turtle Beach Recon 50, 50P, 50X, 60P and Camo gaming headsets have the same frequency response when it comes to their speakers at 20Hz to 20kHz.

Speaker Size

The Recon 50 series, as well as the 60P, use 40mm speakers. The newly available 200 is equipped with 40mm speakers that have neodymium magnets. The Camo headset includes 50mm speakers with neodymium magnets.

Amplified Audio

The 50 and Camo gaming headsets do not have support for Amplified Audio, a feature which makes the game and chat stereo audio louder than normal. The 60P supports this feature although it is limited only to the PlayStation 4 platform. With the newly available 200, however, Amplified Audio can be used on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home consoles.

Bass Boost

The Turtle Beach Recon 200 is the only headset in this series to come with Bass Boost, which adds a little impact to the sound output.

Xbox One Surround Sound

The 200 is also the only Recon headset that supports Surround Sound on the Xbox One as it takes advantage of Windows Sonic for Headphones audio output. It also supports Dolby Atmos for Headphones.

Microphone

The Turtle Beach 50, 60P and Camo gaming headsets use a removable microphone while the Turtle Beach 200 has a flip-up mic that will automatically mute when moved away from your mouth’s direction. All of these mics are designed to be highly sensitive as they should pick up your voice clearly.

Controls

The Recon 50, 60P and Camo use in-line controls for master volume and microphone muting options. The 200 headset has onboard controls as there are wheels for master volume and variable mic monitoring adjustments as well as a switch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One compatibility.

Headband Material

The headbands in 50 series, 60P, 200 are made of synthetic leather with foam cushioning. The Camo uses mesh fabric with foam cushioning.

Ear Cushions

As for the ear cushions, the 200 headset use a synthetic leather with memory foam cushioning. The 50, 50P, 50X and 60P use synthetic leather with regular foam cushioning. Just like its headband, the Camo ear cushions are built on mesh fabric with foam cushioning.

Recap

In terms of features, the new Turtle Beach Recon 200 Gaming Headset is hard to beat as it Amplified Audio (for all platforms), Bass Boost and is the only product on the Recon series to support surround sound on the Xbox One.

The Turtle Beach Recon Camo is a good alternative if you are looking for a headset with bigger speaker size. The 60P is good for PlayStation 4 gamers who are interested in the Amplified Audio feature at a slightly lower priced compared to the 200. Last but not least, the Turtle Beach Recon 50, 50P and 50X are for those looking for a cheaply priced but quality headset and don’t care about any of the aforementioned advanced features.
