Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment recently confirmed that Mortal Kombat X is getting several special game bundles. One of which is the Mortal Kombat X: Kollector’s Edition by Coarse for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. So is the newly-announced products are going to be worth your hard earned money or are you better off getting the standalone game? Let’s take a look at several factors.
Quality of Mortal Kombat X
First, let’s talk about the actual game. Even though it was one of the most popular brands in the fighting genre, the Mortal Kombat series was floundering for quite a number of years. Fortunately, Ed Boon and his colleagues at NetherRealm Studios were able to recapture the magic with the 2011 reboot.
Mortal Kombat X is set a quarter of the century after the ninth installment. The time gap means that a lot of the series’ veterans will sport older looks. Of course, there will also be a portion of the roster dedicated to newcomers.
Early videos have shown that X will be retaining much of what made the 2011 reboot great. With that said, the sequel is going to implement multiple stances and have more emphasis on environmental interactions. Fans of the series, and the fighting genre in general, will most likely enjoy the upcoming game.
Exclusive Scorpion Figurine
The main selling point of Mortal Kombat X: Kollector’s Edition by Coarse is the exclusive Scorpion figurine. The miniature statue was designed by Coarse, a renowned company known for their unique art style when it comes to crafting miniature statues. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity.
With that said, you may not like the design of Scorpion if you want it to look more like the same character you see wearing his traditional clothing in the videogame. Instead, you may want to take a look at the Mortal Kombat X: Kollector’s Import Edition from Amazon if you would rather have a better representation of the fighter.
Other Extras
The limited edition also has a few other extras. However, the bonuses are limited to digital form. If you do buy the Mortal Kombat X: Kollector’s Edition by Coarse, you will be getting an in-game gold skin for Scorpion, which is based on the above-mentioned statue. Also included in the package is the Kombat Pack as the DLC download will give you access to four playable characters (which are hinted to be a mix of returning veterans as well as “iconic” guest characters).
While these extras are nice, they alone won’t justify the high mark up of the product’s price tag if you are not interested in the exclusive Scorpion figurine.
Final Verdict
You should definitely consider buying the Mortal Kombat X: Kollector’s Edition by Coarse if you like how the Scorpion figurine is designed. If you aren’t into the figure, then you can save money and simply opt for the standalone game. The in-game gold skin for Scorpion and Kombat Pack will most likely be made available for purchase on the digital stores at some point. You can purchase the regular standalone game and the collector’s edition with these next pages on Amazon: Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat X: Kollector’s Edition by Coarse.
