2015 Holiday Shopping Guide: Must Have Accessories for New Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo introduced a new iteration for its 3DS line of handheld systems in 2015. The New Nintendo 3DS added a second analog nub in addition to having better CPU performance and autostereoscopic 3D effects. If you are planning to buy the best version of the portable system on Black Friday or anytime during this holiday shopping season, we also suggest getting the following accessories.

Power Adapter Charger

Nintendo made a somewhat controversial decision to not include a power adapter with neither the New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL. The company did mentioned that gamers can use the same adapters from the 2DS, 3DS, 3DS XL, DSi and DSi XL systems however.

With that said, if you don’t have the previous DS devices, you will need to purchase a power adapter. You can find a relatively cheap one available on Amazon with the following link: Original Nintendo 3DS XL Power Adapter Charger.

Alternatively, you can also get USB Charge Cable so that you can recharge the handheld without the need of a power outlet (as you will be using any USB compatible device instead). If you are interested, you can find the Gator Crunch USB Charge Cable here.

If you are planning to play your New 3DS or New 3DS XL during long trips (especially if you take into consideration that a full battery charge can be depleted in as little as 3.5 hours), we also recommend getting the AmazonBasics Portable Power Bank (you can do so with this page) as it will let you recharge any USB-compatible devices. You will be able to use the above-mentioned Gator Crunch USB Charge Cable along with the power bank.

microSDHC Card

The New Nintendo 3DS is compatible with microSD and microSDHC cards. With that said, it can only support microSD cards of up to just 2 GB. So we highly suggest getting a microSD card instead, especially if you are planning on buying lots of digital games and DLC.

The 32 GB SanDisk Ultra microSDHC card should provide plenty of room. With that said, there are also options for a 64 GB, 128 GB and 200 GB cards.

You can check out our four recommend options with the following links: 32 GB SanDisk Ultra microSDHC card, 64 GB SanDisk Ultra microSDHC card, 128 GB SanDisk Ultra microSDHC card and 200 GB SanDisk Ultra microSDHC card.

Screen Filter

As with the other DS systems, the New 3DS XL has a touch sensitive bottom screen where you can use the stylus for various inputs. If you are afraid of scratching either of the two screens, you should pick up a filter. The one from Hori is official licensed by Nintendo and has been designed to be easy to install (with dust-free results). When applied, it should protect the screens from dirt, scratches and smudges.

You can check out the Hori Screen Protective Filter for the New Nintendo 3DS XL here.

Protector

If you would like to protect the other parts of the 3DS XL, we recommend checking out the Hori Duraflexi Protector, which is also officially licensed by Nintendo. This product protects both the top and bottom external shells of the system while leaving space so that you can still access all the important ports and switches.

If you are interested, you can find multiple Hori Duraflexi Protector versions via this following pages: Clear version, Retro Mario version, Yo-Kai Watch Group version and Yo-Kai Watch Jibanyan version.Retro Mario Duraflexi Protector for New Nintendo 3DS XL 1

Carrying Case

When not in use, you can also store your New 3DS XL in a carrying case. TakeCase’s product is built with soft microfiber materials that will protect your system from bumps while also making sure that it won’t be scratched. The case can also hold accessories along with up to eight game cartridges. Not to mention that it will come with a free screen cleaning cloth and carrying strap.

Amiibo Cards and Figures

Last but not least, the New Nintendo 3DS XL natively supports Amiibo cards and figures. The compatible games include Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy Plus, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, Chibi-Robo Zip Lash, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. You can find a list of available Amiibos with the following links: Amiibo Cards and Amiibo Figures.Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards 6-Pack Series 1If you are planning to purchase a New Nintendo 3DS XL or New Nintendo 3DS during the 2015 holiday season, make sure you take a look at the above accessories as well.
