Skullgirls 2nd Encore will be coming out soon for the PlayStation 4. The 2D fighting game will support both PS4 sticks and, thanks to a driver developed by Lab Zero Games, almost all PS3 sticks. Below, you can find our guide of recommended fight sticks to buy for the PS4 release of Skullgirls 2nd Encore.
About Skullgirls
Skullgirls was first released in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 before being ported over to the PC the following year. The game uses six buttons as the punches and kicks have three levels of impact each: low, medium and high. Not to mention that is also uses eight directions on the direction pad and left analog. As a result, using a DualShock 4 or any other gamepad is not the most efficient way to play the game.
About Skullgirls 2nd Encore
After the initial release of Skullgirls, Autumn Games and Lab Zero Games wanted to continue updating the videogame. However, Konami, who was the co-publisher of the game, was unresponsive when it comes to meeting the demands of the other co-publisher and the development team when it comes to releasing patches.
Eventually, Autumn Games and Lab Zero Games severed ties with Konami and decided to enlist the help of Marvelous and CyberFront. The original game was also removed in favor of Skullgirls Encore, which comes with updated gameplay in addition to new content.
Skullgirls Encore was initially slated to come out for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. However, Lab Zero Games decided to release Skullgirls 2nd Encore instead. The newest version comes with all the content and DLC from the previous versions in addition to new features, including support for PS3 sticks on the PS4 system.
Best Arcade Stick to Play Skullgirls 2nd Encore on PS4
While you can use your old PS3 arcade sticks, we highly recommended getting a natively-supported one to play the fighting game on PlayStation 4. In this case, the Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai is the best widely-available option. The officially licensed product comes equipped with an authentic arcade Hayabusa joystick and Kuro buttons.
It has also been improved when compared to previous iterations as the Pro 4 Kai comes with better accuracy, comfort, durability and comfort. The other notable features include button configuration, touch panel, turbo functionality in addition to a toggle switch (so you can switch between PS4 and PS3 compatibility).

With that said, you won’t be able to use the PlayStation 4’s system menus if you decided to do so. As long as you have the DualShock 4 to navigate, however, this shouldn’t be a problem.
