Sony recently announced several limited edition Uncharted 4 products, one of which is a special version of the PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset. So is the first-party gaming headset worth buying? Before you come up with your own conclusion on the limited edition product, let’s take a look at some potential factors that could sway you in one direction or another.
Pricing
The Uncharted 4 Limited Edition PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset has the same MSRP as the standard version of the same product. You can check out the price tags for both with the following links on Amazon: Uncharted 4 Limited Edition Headset and Standard Edition Headset.
7.1 Virtual Surround Sound
The biggest selling point for the PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset is that it supports 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound. If you haven’t try 7.1 surround sound already, then you are missing out on a great feature as the audio really immerses you into the game. Not to mention that being be able to hear where a certain noise is coming from is especially great if you are looking to gain a competitive advantage.
7.1 Virtual Surround Sound is also cheaper in price when compared to hardware based solutions such as the Astro A50 Gaming Headset, Skullcandy PLYR1 7.1 Surround Sound Wireless Gaming Headset and Turtle Beach Ear Force Elite 800 Premium Fully Wireless Gaming Headset.
PlayStation Headset Companion App
Another neat feature of the PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset is that Sony added a free Headset Companion App that can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store. This application features general presets as well as audio modes for specific games, including Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection in addition to the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Support for Other Systems and Devices
Keep in mind that the PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset will also work, fully featured, with PlayStation 3 games. It can also be used with other devices, including the PlayStation Vita, as a stereo headset with the included 3.5mm audio cable.
Rarity
Another factor that you may want to consider is just how limited the Uncharted 4 Limited Edition PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset will be. Sony previously released a Glacier White and 20th Anniversary Edition of the same product, both of which are no longer actively manufactured. With that said, you can still purchase them if look hard enough on websites such as Amazon. You can check out the current prices for the other two limited editions for the product with the following links from the aforementioned online retailer: Glacier White and 20th Anniversary Edition.
Possible Issues
With that said, the PlayStation Gold does suffer from some issues. One of which is that the headband tend to crack and breakdown over time. Furthermore, the gaming headset can feel uncomfortable over long play sessions as you ears will begin to hurt and feel heated after some time (although this could vary between different users). Hopefully, Sony was able to resolve these problems with the latest version of the PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset.

If you are still planning on buying the Uncharted 4 Limited Edition PlayStation Gold Wireless Headset, you might want to consider getting other matching hardware as well. Sony is also releasing a Gray Blue DualShock 4, which matches the color as the headset. Furthermore, the company has a system bundle, which comes with the Gray Blue console plastered with the Nathan Drake art work in addition to a matching PS4 controller. You can check out the complementary products with the following pages: Uncharted 4 Limited Edition System and Gray Blue DualShock 4.
