Splatoon has been getting a lot of attention, especially from Nintendo fans, after being announced at E3 2014. Nearly a year later, the new intellectual property is ready to be released in North America. Based on early play tests, the Wii U exclusive looks like it will be the next great game for the console. If you are planning to buy the game, you might also want to check out the following accessories if you want to get the most out of your experience.
Ethernet LAN Adapters
The main selling point in Splatton is the online multiplayer. You will be able to partake in battles of eight players with four on each team. In the main mode, you have to paint as much of the land mass as possible with your team’s ink before the timer runs out. Of course, you will be competing against the other team for real estate, which will lead to chaotic fights.
If you want the best connection possible when playing online (especially if you are afraid of losing connection or encountering lag), you should consider buying Ethernet LAN adapters. This is because the Wii U is only capable of using Wi-Fi.
If you have not read out previous buying guide, we suggest getting any of the following three products on Amazon: eForCity USB 10/100Mbps Ethernet Network Adapter, HDE Ethernet LAN Adapter for Nintendo Wii USB Port and UtechSmart USB 2.0 to 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN Wired Network Adapter.
Amiibo Figures
Nintendo locked out some of the content in Splatoon for Amiibos. The company is planning three figures: Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl and Squid. The first two can be bought separately while the latter is only available as part of the three-pack bundle in North America.
When scanned into the videogame, the Splatoon Amiibo figures will unlock extra challenges for the single-player campaign. Successful completion of these extra objectives is going to reward players with extra outfits and a retro mini-game. So, if you want to get the most out of the videogame, you should buy all three figurines. You can find the Amiibos on Amazon with the following links: Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl and Splatoon Amiibo Three-Pack.
Wii U Gamepad Protection
The only way to play Splatoon (with the exception of the second controller in Battle Dojo) is by using the Wii U Gamepad. In addition to providing a mini-map, the pad can also be used so that you can jump to your teammate’s location anywhere in the arena.
Since you will be using the Wii U Gamepad a lot, we suggest getting a few protective products as replacing a broken one is very expensive. For the touch screen, you should check out the Hori Precision Screen Filter. The product is officially licensed by Nintendo and is designed to prevent the screen from any scratches and wear. Not to mention that it will be easy to apply while preventing any potential air bobbles in the process. You can find the Hori Precision Screen Filter for Wii U with this link.
If you want to protect the other parts of the pad as well, you might want to check out the Wii U GamePad Protector from Hori. The case protects the controller from dirt and scratches while keeping the analog sticks, buttons and ports accessible. You can check out the basic version of the Hori Wii U GamePad Protector here. A Splatoon-themed version can also be purchased with this page.
Wii U Pro Controller
As we mentioned above, you will be able to play a local two player mode called Battle Dojo in Splatoon. The objective is to shoot more balloons than your opponent. Instead of a traditional split-screen, the videogame uses a somewhat unique method in which one player can play off-screen using the Wii U Gamepad while the other can play using the television screen. As a result, they won’t be able to look at each other’s screen to tell where their opponent is located on the map.
Of course, you will need another controller aside from the Wii U Gamepad in order to play Battle Dojo. Thus, you should pick up the Wii U Pro Controller if you are planning to play the mode with another friend. You can purchase it here.
Official Strategy Guide
Last but not least, you might want to take a look at Splatoon: Prima Official Game Guide. The official strategy guide for the game will cover all the campaign levels, including the extra Amiibo challenges. It is also going to include strategies for mastering the multiplayer. Not to mention that the included e-Guide will provide updated content for the game, which Nintendo is planning to update regularly after launch. You can purchase the Splatoon: Prima Official Game Guide with this link. Splatoon is launching on the 29th of May in North America. If you are getting the game, make sure you check out the other complementary products we mentioned above as well.
