Top 10 PlayStation 4 games that should support the Project Morpheus VR headset

Sony announced Project Morpheus during GDC 2014. At this year’s Game Developers Conference, the company also revealed an updated prototype of the virtual reality headset, which uses an OLED display running at 1920 x 1080 pixels while using RGB sub-pixels. It also runs at 120 hz refresh rate and a low latency of 18 milliseconds. Last but not least, its 5.7 inch screen can be rotated at 100 degrees field of vision that can be tracked from the PlayStation 4 camera by using nine LED lights.

Sony is planning to release Project Morpheus, which is currently a code name until an official one is finalized, during the first half of 2016. Below is our top 10 list of games that, in our opinion, should support the Project Morpheus VR headset.

10. Minecraft PS4 Edition

Already one of the most popular videogames ever created, Minecraft makes perfect sense for virtual reality. Being able to gather resources and build with the blocks will be even more immersive using a VR headset. The only real issue is that Microsoft recently bought the Minecraft intellectual property, which may hinder Minecraft PS4 Edition from being updated with a potential patch that will add Morpheus support.

Minecraft PS4 Edition was first released on September 5, 2014. You can purchase the PlayStation 4 version with this page on Amazon.Minecraft Playstation 4 Edition

9. Flower

In Flower, your task is to revitalized the world by guiding flower petals with the wind. The already exciting experience should be even better if Sony decided to add Project Morpheus support, especially when you are building up speed and momentum through the impressive-looking fields while slicing through the tall grass.

Flower came out for the PS4 on November 15, 2013. You can buy the PSN game here.flower-ps3

8. LittleBigPlanet 3

While not immediately obvious, adding a Morpheus support via a patch for LittleBigPlanet 3 makes a lot of sense. For one, the videogame already supports the PlayStation Move controller, which was built with virtual reality in mind. Not to mention that the community can also come up with their own creative way to take advantage of the VR headset by building their own levels.

You can order LittleBigPlanet 3, which came out on November 18, 2014, with this link.LittleBigPlanet-3-Gamescom-Screenshot

7. The Evil Within

The Evil Within came from survival-horror mastermind, Shinji Mikami. Along with having some elements from Resident Evil 4, the new intellectual property also throws in some psychological scares that will keep you on your toes at all times. Its super widescreen presentation also makes it suitable for the headset as the development team can remove the black bars and take advantage of the 100 degrees FOV of Morpheus.

The Evil Within was made available on October 14th of last year. You can acquire it with this page.evil_within_online_boxman_1397466502

6. DriveClub

DriveClud is one of the more underrated PS4 exclusives. The racing game offers a thrilling racing experience, especially when it comes to speed and graphics. These visual elements will be further enhanced with the added depth from using the virtual reality headset. Not to mention that being able to look around in your cockpit from a first-person perceptive will further add to the immersion of your experience.

DriveClub was released last year on the 7th of October. You can get the PS4 exclusive racing title via this link.DC_Screen_39_1402418580

5. Alien Isolation

After the disappointing Aliens Colonial Marines, fans of the movie franchise got a pleasant surprise with Alien Isolation. In the latest game, you have to avoid and sneak past the monstrous creature from the first-person perspective. These intense altercations will be even scarier if the developer ever decide to patch in support for the Project Morpheus VR headset.

Alien Isolation also came out on October 7th of last year. You can order it now here.alien-isolation_07_1402071179

4. MLB 16: The Show

The new virtual reality tech should also benefit sporting games as well. We are most excited about the possibility with next year’s MLB 16: The Show. Being able to pitch or bat from a first-person perspective with the added depth should really change the experience in a good way. The MLB: The Show games are usually released around late May and early April, so it could fall in the same time frame as the launch of Project Morpheus.

This year’s version, MLB 15: The Show, came out on March 31st. You can purchase the baseball game with this page.mlb-15-the-show-hunter-pence-sf-giants

3. Mirror’s Edge

The original Mirror’s Edge, which was developed by EA Digital Illusions CE, turned some heads with its first-person parkour gameplay. The new installment promises to expand on the innovative elements with open-world environments. It should benefit from virtual reality as the added depth should give you better judgment on distances when it comes to jumping while being able to look around for routes can be quite intuitive.

The Mirror’s Edge reboot does not have an official release date.mirrors_edge_vista_logo_final

2. Star Wars Battlefront

While we do not know much about Star Wars Battlefront yet, the fact that above-mentioned EA Digital Illusions CE (the developers behind the Battlefield series) is behind the reboot gives us a lot of optimism. Being able to theoretically fly and pilot the famous vehicles via the Morpheus VR headset alone makes it worth getting the add-on accessory if support for it gets patched in. Not to mention that being able to look around with the 100 degrees field of view should add more immersion.

1. P.T./Silent Hills

First-person survival-horror games should really benefit from Project Morpheus and other virtual reality headsets. The best out of the group is P.T., which is actually a playable teaser for Silent Hills. In the game, you wander through a haunted house. Kojima Productions did a great job building the atmosphere as well as keeping players on their toes with some disturbing imagery. If these concepts can be expanded into Silent Hills with support for Morpheus, then the upcoming title could end up being one of the scariest gaming experiences of all time.

It is unknown when Silent Hills will be coming out. However, the project may be in trouble with Hideo Kojima, the co-director of the project, leaving Konami. (Update: The game has been officially cancelled. With that said, the concept introduced in P.T. will hopefully makes its way, one way or another, to Project Morpheus). silent_hills_pt_logoHopefully, some (if not all) of the games we mentioned above will use Project Morpheus. Using the VR headset will make these current and upcoming experiences even better.
