Mad Catz recently released two premium Street Fighter V branded fighting sticks. While the Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S+ and Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2+ are mainly similar, there are some notable differences. Below, you can find a comparison of features between the two sticks.
Pricing
First let’s take a look at the pricing. The Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2+ is the more expensive of the two. You can find its price tag with this link on Amazon. In comparison, the Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S+ is a little bit cheaper. You can check out the price for the S+ with this page.
Weight and Size
In terms of weight, the TE2+ is slightly heavier than the TES+ as it weighs around 7.7 pounds compared to approximately 6.1 pounds.
The dimensions of the Tournament Edition 2+ are also slightly bigger, measuring at roughly 15.5 inches by 12 inches by 2.5 inches. The Tournament Edition S+ measures at around 15.5 inches by 10 inches by 2.5 inches. As you can see, both fighting sticks have the same length and height (even when taking into account the joystick, which adds another 2.25 inches).
Cable
Another small difference between the two products is the wired cable used to connect the fight stick to the PlayStation 4. The TE2+ uses a ProCable, which utilizes a locking mechanism so that you can prevent it from being detached during more intensive moments. The TES+ comes with a standard USB cable. Both cables measure at 9.8 feet in length.
PlayStation 4 Support
Both arcade sticks come with the same Playstation 4 system level buttons, including the PS button, touch pad as well as L3 and R3 buttons. In terms of Street Fighter V, the touch pad is used to hide/display battle information as well as moving the character’s position in training mode. L3 is used to reset the last training setting while R3 can be used to cycle through the status of the dummy during the practice fights.
Other Platforms Support
In addition to the PlayStation 4, both sticks can also be used on the PlayStation 3 and PC. For the PS4, you simply use the PS4/PS3 switch located on the top panel.
PC compatibility is a little bit more complicated. Mad Catz recently released a patch that added support for native X-Input, so gamers will no longer have to work around D-Input. The updated drivers can be downloaded from Mad Catz’s official website with this link. To use the sticks on PC, make sure that the “PS3/PS4” switch is set to “PS4.”
Other Features
The Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S+ and Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2+ also share other features. One of which is the ability to disable the PS, LS/DP/RS, Touch Pad, L3, R3, Start/Options and Select/Share buttons in order to prevent accidental input that could affect the gameplay.
Another feature shared by both products is the LS/DP/RS switch, which lets you change the joystick to function as either the directional pad, left analog stick or the right stick.
Last but not least, the two sticks come with a durable metal base to provide a solid feel. With the non-slip foam padding, you can also place the accessories on your lap without having to worry about stability.
Headset Port
Unfortunately, both the Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S+ and Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2+ do not come with a headset port. So, if you are planning to use voice chat online while using either of the accessories, you will have to look into alternative methods.
Customization
The 2+ has a big advantage over the S+ when it comes to customizing and modding your fighting stick.
With the Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition S+, you will be able to use a full-sized Sanwa JLF joystick as well as OBSF-30 action buttons. Furthermore, OBSF-24 buttons can be used for the Start/Options, Select/Share buttons. Also compatible are the Legacy TE FightStick Side Panels. While you can also use Legacy TE FightStick Bezels, you will have to separate the control module from the bezel as they are in one piece on the S+.
Keep in mind that you will need a 3mm hex key to open the top panel. Not to mention that changing the PCBs will void your warranty.
The Arcade FightStick Tournament Edition 2+ provides a lot more modding options. The fighting stick uses a hinged chassis design so it can be opened easily. It also comes with a screwdriver tool with interchangeable hex and flat heads so that you can remove the bezel and clear top panel to change the artwork.
The product should be customizable with most joystick levers, including those from Sanwa and Seimitsu. You can also use 30mm size action buttons as well as the 24mm size Start/Options and Select/Share buttons. The other notable customizable parts include the bezels, side panels, LED PCB (although you will void your warranty if you decide to modify the PCBs) and metal button panels.
