WRC 5 is the first installment of the series to be heading to the PlayStation 4. As with other racing games, the upcoming title is best played with a racing wheel set. So what are the best WRC 5 compatible racing wheels for the PlayStation 4 version? You can find out below with our latest accessory buying guide for WRC 5 below.
About WRC 5
First let’s talk a little bit about the upcoming game. The fifth mainline installment of the series comes with five stages with 13 rallies each (for a total of 65 across more than 350kms of tracks). Not to mention that it also uses dynamic weather and lighting conditions along with a damage system. So, if you are looking for a dedicated rally game, especially if you are a fan of the FIA World Rally Championship, then you should check out WRC 5.
You can preorder the racer, if you haven’t already, with this link on Amazon.
Thrustmaster VG T100 Force Feedback Racing Wheel and Thrustmaster T500RS Racing Wheel
Although the VG T100 and T500RS aren’t natively supported on the PlayStation 4, these wheels are still compatible with the PS4 version of WRC 5. While the VG T100 is the cheaper of the two, it doesn’t have nearly the same features as the other alternative.
The Thrustmaster T500RS comes with a steering wheel capable of 1080 degrees of rotation. It also uses a 65W industrial motor to provide force feedback rumble with a torque of 150mNm at 3000 RPM. The T500RS also has a fully metal constructed set that has two positions: a F1 style as well as a GT style. Gamers can also change the resistance of the pedals via a removable mod.
The only drawback is that it is not made to natively support the PlayStation 4 (as it is a PS3 wheel). Thus, it may not work with other racing games aside from WRC 5. If you are still interested in the set, you can buy it with this page.
Thrustmaster T80 RS and Thrustmaster VG T300RS
If you want a natively supported PS4 wheel instead, you should check out either the Thrustmaster T80 RS or Thrustmaster VG T300RS. The former is much cheaper but is only capable of being rotated at a maximum of 270 degrees. Not to mention that there is no force feedback rumble. With that said, it is still a solid choice if you are on a budget. If you are interested in the T80 RS, you can purchase it here.If you don’t mind spending more, you should definitely check out Thrustmaster VG T300RS instead. This set comes with a force feedback steering wheel that supports up to 1080 degrees of rotation. It also has a pedal set that can be adjusted in both height and spacing in six different positions. With that said, there are only two pedals as opposed to the three that came with the Thrustmaster T500RS. You can purchase the VG T300RS, if you are interested, with this link.
Add-on PS4 Racing Accessories
The above-mentioned Thrustmaster wheel sets are also compatible with other racing game products from the company. If you want to add more realism when playing WRC 5, you might want to check out the Thrustmaster VG TH8A Add-On Gearbox Shifter with this page as it will let you use a realistic metal-constructed H-pattern shifter. The aforementioned Thrustmaster VG T300RS also supports the T3PA 3-Pedal Wide Pedal Set and Thrustmaster VG T3PA-PRO 3-Pedal Set. Thus, you can replace the default two-pedal set that came with the T300RS with a three-pedals unit. You can check out both add-ons with the following links: T3PA 3-Pedal Wide Pedal Set and Thrustmaster VG T3PA-PRO 3-Pedal Set.If you have some more cash, we also recommend getting a racing seat made just for racing games. For the T80RS, T300RS and T500RS, you should check out the Openwheeler Advanced Racing Seat Driving Simulator Gaming Chair. This product comes with a real car seat along with a stand to hold the steering wheel as well as the pedal set. You can find the gaming chair, in multiple color options, here.
Recap
While the Thrustmaster T500RS Racing Wheel is a great product, it is not natively supported on the PlayStation 4. As a result, it is not guarantee to work with other racing games aside from WRC 5. So, if you want the best wheel for the upcoming game as well as other PS4 racers, the Thrustmaster VG T300RS is a safer bet if you want a high end one. Not to mention that you can also buy the T3PA 3-Pedal Wide Pedal Set or Thrustmaster VG T3PA-PRO 3-Pedal Set if you don’t like the two-pedal default set of the T300RS.
The other add-ons we recommend getting are the Thrustmaster VG TH8A Add-On Gearbox Shifter and, if you don’t mind the price tag, the Openwheeler Advanced Racing Seat Driving Simulator Gaming Chair.
If you want to play WRC 5, which is coming out later this October, in the most immersive way possible, make sure you check out the T300RS as well as the add-ons we mentioned above.
