Is the Kombat Pack season pass worth buying for Mortal Kombat X?

Mortal Kombat X has just been released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The tenth mainline installment for the popular fighting series has been receiving great reviews so far. Accompanying the launch of the videogame is the Kombat Pack, which is priced at half as much as the game itself? So is the Mortal Kombat X season pass worth buying? Let’s take a look at a few aspects that will help you make up your purchasing decision.

Base Version of Mortal Kombat X

The base version of Mortal Kombat X is already packed with plenty of content. In terms of playable characters, you will have access to a mix of newcomers in addition to an abundance of returning favorites. Not to mention that each of the fighter has three variations, which dramatically changes his or her play styles.

The list includes Cassie Cage, D’Vorah, Ermac, Erron Black, Ferra/Torr, Jacqui Briggs, Jax Briggs, Johnny Cage, Kano, Kenshi, Kitana, Kotal Kahn, Kung Jin, Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Mileena, Quan Chi, Raiden, Reptile, Scorpion, Shinnok, Sonya Blade, Sub-Zero and Takeda. If you preorder the videogame, you will also get access to Goro.

While there are more than enough fighters from the base game to keep you satisfy for a long time, the DLC characters from the Kombat Pack season pass are also very intriguing. Below, you can find out what included in each of the four major packs.mortal-kombat-x-kombat-pack-season-pass

The Ultimate Horror Pack

The first Mortal Kombat X DLC character is an iconic one with Jason Voorhees. For the uninformed, the fictional character and his trademarked hockey mask came from the Friday the 13th movie franchise, so he fits right into the universe of the gaming series. The Ultimate Horror Pack also has the following Horror Skins: Kraken Reptile, Pharaoh Ermac and Vampiress Mileena.

The Klassic Pack #1

Next up is the first Klassic Pack, which lets you play as Tanya. Long time fans of the series will recognize her when she first appeared in Mortal Kombat 4. She last appeared in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, which was released way back in 2006. The pack also comes with Klassic Skins for Kano, Sonya and Liu Kang.

The Predator/Prey Pack

The second guest character that you can get is Predator, who comes from the movies of the same name. The unique abilities and intimidating nature of the alien makes it a great fit with the rest of the Mortal Kombat cast. Aside from the playable character, you will also get the following Predator-themed skins: Commando Johnny, Infrared Scorpion as well as Jax dressing up as Carl Weathers.

The Klassic Pack #2

The final release included in the Mortal Kombat X season pass is the second Klassic Pack. You will get to play as Tremor, who first appeared in the Mortal Kombat: Special Forces videogame for the PS1 in 2000. However, the DLC will be the first time the ninja will be playable in the series. The expansion also comes with Klassic Skins for Jax, Kung Lao and Quan Chi.

Early Access and Samurai Pack

The four main packs won’t be the only benefits in the Kombat Pass. You will also get access to these expansions before they are made available for the rest of the public. Not to mention that you get the Samurai Skin Pack (featuring Jingu Kitana, Ronin Kenshi and Samurai Shinnok) as well.mortal-kombat-x-samurai-pack

Lack of Goro

One character you won’t be able to get with the season pass is Goro. As of right now, Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment is only making the four-arm beast limited to customers who preorder the videogame in advance of release. Otherwise, you have to pay for the special character separately.

Try Before You Buy

NetherRealm Studios is also offering an unique feature for gamers who are sitting on a fence when it comes to buying the Kombat Pack on any of the four DLC characters that are included in the season pass. You can try out the fighters in the Premiere Towers when they are made available. If you want to unlock them for other modes, then you have to purchase the expansions.

Kollector’s Editions

If you haven’t bought the Mortal Kombat X videogame yet, then you might want to pick up either the Mortal Kombat X Kollector’s Edition by Coarse or Mortal Kombat X Kollector’s Import Edition. Along with the videogame, the bundles also come with all sorts of extras such as the Kombat Pack. You can check out the two versions on Amazon with the following links: Mortal Kombat X Kollector’s Edition by Coarse and Mortal Kombat X Kollector’s Import Edition.

Recap

The base version of Mortal Kombat X has more than enough content to keep most fans satisfied. With that said, each of the four DLC characters add his or her own unique twists to the roster. If you want all the packs announced so far and as early as possible, then you should definitely purchase the season pass. If you are still on the fence, you may want to wait until the new characters are available to try out via the Premiere Towers.
