Nintendo launched the Super Smash Bros. Amiibo line on the 21st of November in 2014 with 12 figures (Donkey Kong, Fox, Kirby, Link, Mario, Marth, Peach, Pikachu, Samus, Villager, Wii Fit Girl and Yoshi). The company did not release the same amount for each of the figurine, which caused many collectors to panic trying to find every one of the miniature interactive statues. So which ones ended up being the rarest? We take a look at some possible reasons why they decided to limit the productions of the Fox, Marth, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager Amiibos.
Fox Amiibo
Fox is easily the most recognizable character on the rarest Amiibo figures list from the first wave of figures. Nintendo is actually releasing a new Star Fox game for the Wii U in 2015. However, this could actually be a detriment to the Super Smash Bros. version of the Fox Amiibo as the company may want to release a new iteration of the figure to go along with the release of the dedicated videogame. Of course, being semi-popular also means that a lot of hardcore fans are buying the Super Smash Bros. version, causing shortages.

Marth Amiibo
It should come as no surprise to see Marth be one of the rarest Amiibos in the first wave of releases. The swordsman come from the Fire Emblem series, which has a very niche audience. Nintendo does have a cross over game called Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem but very little has been shown since the original announcement. With the lack of any foreseeable supported games for Marth, Nintedo may have decided not to release too many figures.

Villager Amiibo
Animal Crossing has became one of the more successful new franchises for Nintendo in recent years. So it may be somewhat surprising to see the low shipment numbers for the Villager Amiibo. On the other hand, the series is all about character customization, including being able to change the look of your avatar. As a result, Nintendo may have thought that no one would be buying the Super Smash Bros. version of the figurine as it features a non-customizable look.

Wii Fit Trainer Amiibo
A lot of fans predicted that Wii Fit Trainer would be is short supply as she does not appear to appeal to the target audience of hardcore Nintendo fans. The company may have felt the same way as that specific Amiibo became one of the rarest from the first wave of releases. Nintendo already released Wii Fit U for the Wii U, which did not end up selling well at all. Another potential Wii Fit game does not seem very likely at this point in time. As a result, there may not be much use of the figurine outside of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which may have resulted in low shipment numbers.
