Echo Night is the newest game to be added to the PSOne Classic line of re-releases, according to a listing from the ESRB. Like all the previous digital releases of the classics, the product is going to be published by Sony Computer Entertainment America.
For the uninformed, Echo Night came out in the U.S. way back in 1999, when it was initially published by Agetec. The videogame was developed by From Software, a studio that went on to create Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and the upcoming Bloodborne.
Echo Night is a survival-horror game that takes place from a first-person perspective. Your object is to travel through time to help solve a murder. While you encounter ghosts, it is impossible to fight them directly. Instead, you literally have to find the nearest light switch and turn on the lights to make the phantoms disappear. A sequel, Echo Night: Beyond, was eventually released for the PlayStation 2 in 2004.
It is unlikely that From Software will be revisiting the Echo Night series anytime soon as they got their hands full with Souls brand of action RPGs. Their latest work, Bloodborne, does have some survival-horror elements going for it, however. The PS4 exclusive can be preordered with this link from Amazon.
