With Halloween around the corner, it may be a good time to start looking for horror games to play during, before and after the holiday. 2015 has been a great year so far for fans of scary interactive experiences. Below, you can find a list of ten must-play horror games that have been released so far this year.
Bloodborne
Bloodborne combines the intense Souls gameplay with a horror twist, resulting in one of the best games of 2015. The enemies you encounter and locations you visit can be downright terrifying, especially considering how easy it is to die and lose all your blood echoes, which act as both currency and experience, if you aren’t alert. If you can only play one horror game for Halloween, make sure that it is Bloodborne.
You can purchase the PlayStation 4 exclusive, which is developed by Form Software, with this link on Amazon.
Corpse Party Blood Drive
Being a visual novel, Corpse Party Blood Drive is a different type of survival-horror game as it focuses heavily on story instead of gameplay. The upcoming game will have players revisit the iconic and haunted Heavenly Host Elementary School. If you don’t mind the slower pace, then you should give Blood Drive a try. Just make sure you play the first two games of the series, Corpse Party and Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, before jumping into the third game.

Dying Light
For the uninformed, Dying Light is a new intellectual property from the creators behind Dead Island. The new game places more emphasis on movement as players will have to scale barriers and climb to high grounds, especially during nighttime as the zombies become more aggressive and deadly. The underrated Dying Light is worth checking out for fans of both horror and open-world games.
You can buy Dying Light on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC here.
Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water
Maiden of Black Water is the latest installment of the Fatal Frame series. For the uninformed, players have to get rid of ghosts by taking pictures via a camera up close in these games. In the Wii U exclusive, the GamePad functions as a camera (one of the few games of the system that actually take advantage of the controller’s unique feature), which should add more immersion to an already terrifying experience.
In North America, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water will be released as a digital-only game where the first few chapters are free to download. So, if you are still on the fence, you can try it out before buying.
Resident Evil
One of the most iconic horror games of all time was remastered for high-definition. The remake of the original, which was originally released for the Gamecube, can now be played at 1080p with wide screen support in addition to surround sound. So, even if you play the original to death, there is plenty of incentives to play through what should be the best version of the game yet.
Resident Evil can be downloaded on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Resident Evil Revelations 2
After the disappointing Resident Evil 6, Capcom was able to win back fans with the solid Resident Evil Revelations 2. Similar to recent games, Revelations 2 is best played in co-op. With that said, cooperation has never been more important as the secondary character is needed in order to expose weak spots and even located invisible enemies. If you are planning to play a horror with another person for Halloween, then make sure you check out the latest Resident Evil release.
You can purchase the physical version of Revelations 2 with this link. The game is available for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Soma
Soma came from Frictional Games, the developers behind the Amnesia series of horror titles. In the recent release, players get to explore a mysterious, and creepy, underwater facility. Those seeking a thought-provoking plot in addition to an unique horror setting should certainly give the downloadable game a try.
Soma is out right now for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
Until Dawn
One of the biggest surprises of 2015 is Until Dawn, a game that basically lets you play in a teen slasher flick. What makes the new intellectual property special is that your choices have an impact on what happen in the story as all the characters can either die or live. If you ever yell at the characters in movies for making stupid decisions, then you most definitely need to play Until Dawn during Halloween.
You can purchase the surprise hit, which is exclusive to the PlayStation 4, here.
White Night
The least recognizable name on the list is White Night, an indie game from OSome Studio. It uses an unique black-and-white film noire to create clever light and dark shadows. Not to mention that you have creepy apparitions chasing you down. Since the digital title does not cost that much, it is worth a look if you go in with an open mind.
White Night can be downloaded on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Zombi
Originally released as a Wii U launch game, ZombiU is a game that take place during a zombie apocalypse. What makes this horror game different from the others is that the random characters you control can permanently die, giving you control of another individual.
ZombiU was recently ported to the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One under the name of Zombi. So, if you missed the Wii U version, make sure to check out the game on other platforms. As you can see, there are plenty of must-play 2015 horror games to experience before, during and after Halloween.
