Is the Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle worth buying?

To coincide with the launch of Destiny 2, Sony will be releasing a limited edition PlayStation 4 Pro bundle with the game. So, is this product worth purchasing or will you be better off with something else? Before you decide for yourself, you can take a look at our buying guide below.

Price

You can actually save a little bit of cash by purchasing the Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle as opposed to buying the system, game and digital contents separately. You can compare the current prices for the bundle, as well as the individual parts, on Amazon with the links below:

Destiny 2 PS4 Pro Enhancements

Sony built the PlayStation 4 Pro mainly for use with a 4K television set. So, whether or not you own a compatible TV may end up being a big determining factor as to whether or not this gaming system is worth buying.

In the beta for Destiny 2, the frame rates for both the PS4 Pro and standard PS4 versions of the first-person shooter remain at a steady 30 per second. With that said, the game will run at a higher resolution (at checkerboard 4K) on the Pro.

Furthermore, the Pro version will also provide downsampling if you are using a 1080p television screen, meaning that it will have a cleaner and sharper image quality when compared to the standard PS4 version even if aren’t using a 4K display.

Last but not least, the sequel will support HDR in the future. Both PS4 hardware are capable of outputting HDR.

On the gameplay front, Destiny 2 will play the same on both the standard and Pro versions of the PlayStation 4 as it will run at 30 frames per second on the systems. If you want the best possible visuals out of the two, however, then you might want to take a look at getting the PS4 Pro (especially if you have a 4K capable TV).

Destiny 2 Extras

Next, let’s talk about the digital extras of the game that is being included in the bundle. You will be getting a physical copy of the game in addition to two types of digital content.

The first of which is the Destiny 2 Expansion Pass. Just like the first game, the development team at Bungie is planning to release several major DLC packs for the first-person shooter. Each of these expansions contain new armor, gear, weapon, cooperative activities, competitive multiplayer content and story missions. The Expansion Pass comes with the first two major packs.

Also included in the Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle is the Premium Digital Content Pack. This pack comes with three DLC pieces: Cabal Empire Themed Emblem, Legendary Player Emote and Legendary Sword.

As we mentioned above, the Expansion Pass and Premium Digital Content Pack are also included Destiny 2 Digital Deluxe Edition. If you want a physical copy of the game to go along with those extras (as well as the additional savings), however, you have to buy the Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle.

PS4 Timed Exclusive Content

Although Destiny 2 is also being released for the Xbox One and PC, the game will have timed exclusive content for the PlayStation 4 until at least the fall of 2018.

Perhaps the biggest of which is the Lake of Shadows strike, which takes place on a broken dam at the European Dead Zone. For player versus player competitive multiplayer, PS4 gamers will also be the first to play the Retribution map, an arena that takes place on a Red Legion assault ship.

The other bonuses include an exotic weapon called the Borealis Sniper Rifle. This firearm comes with three damage types: arc, solar and void. Also exclusive are the City Apex ship, Icarus Drifter armor for Hunter, Terra Concord armor for Titan and Tesseract Trace armor for Warlock.

So, if you owned all three platforms, then you might want to consider getting the PS4/PS4 Pro version over the other two as it will have the most content for at least one year after the game’s launch.

PlayStation 4 Pro System

Finally, let’s take a look at the system included in the Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle. The console itself is painted in Glacier White color. The bundle is the only way to get the Glacier White PS4 Pro in the North American region.

The product also comes with a matching Glacier White DualShock 4. You should note that this is the updated version the gamepad. One of the new features is that it has a narrow translucent strip on the top end of the touchpad, which makes it more convenient when playing games that incorporate the use of light bars. The other new addition to the ability to send controller inputs directly over USB as opposed to only using the Bluetooth connection to do so (this also makes it more convenient if you are planning to use your DualShock 4 for PC gamers as you no longer need a Bluetooth dongle).

Currently, the only way to get the updated Glacier White DualShock 4 controller in North America is through the Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle.

Recap

The Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle has several factors favoring it. One of which is that it is cheaper to purchase as opposed to buying all of its component separately. You might want to also take into account the Pro enhancements (even if you have a 1080p TV instead of a 4K capable one) in addition to the PS4 Timed Exclusive Content. Not to mention that the bundle is currently the only way to get the Glacier White PlayStation Pro System in the North American region.

The Limited Edition Destiny 2 PlayStation 4 Pro Bundle will be released on the 6th of September. If you are still interested, you can purchase the product on Amazon with this link.
