After releasing the first two wave of Amiibo figures in late 2014, Nintendo has a third wave of releases coming up in early 2015. The new set composes of 11 figurines based on the Super Smash Bros. line: Bowser, Ike, King Dedede, Lucario, Mega Man, Meta Knight, Sheik, Shulk, Sonic, Toon Link in addition to the duo of Rosalina and Luma. So what are the best third wave Amiibo figures that you should consider buying in terms of future uses? Find out in our rankings of the figurines below.
11. Mega Man Amiibo
It was a nice surprise to see Mega Man added to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS. This is because Capcom has been neglecting the franchise for years even though it has a strong base of dedicated fans. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any type of Mega Man game announced that will be coming out anytime soon. Hopefully, Nintendo may be able to form a partnership with Capcom to get something done.

10. Ike Amiibo
Nintendo currently has a crossover game coming up called Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem that is being released exclusively for the Wii U home console. With that said, a release date is nowhere in sight while we know next to nothing about the project. Because of that, it make take some time to find other dedicated uses for the Ike figurine aside from being able to train him as a figure player with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

9. Sonic Amiibo
Sega partnered with Nintendo to release three Wii U exclusive Sonic games: Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. Unfortunately, none of those titles have supported the Sonic figurine so far. With that said, it is extremely likely that Sega won’t stop pumping out games from their popular franchise anytime soon, especially now that the there is a animated television series.

8. Rosalina and Luma Amiibo
Rosalina and Luma have already made quite a few cameo appearances in Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8. However, it appears that Nintendo may have jumped the gun a little too early as the two above-mentioned games do not directly support their figurine. With that said, the company seems to be committed to raising their popularity, so there’s a good chance that the figure could be used in games like Mario Party 10 and Mario Maker.
The Rosalina and Luma Amiibo is exclusive to Target in the United States.
7. Bowser Amiibo
Even though Bowser is one of their most recognizable characters, Nintendo has not yet announced any direct support for his Amiibo. Don’t be surprised if we some kind of compatibility with new Mario games such as Mario Party 10 and Mario Maker as the villain should be included in those 2015 releases. Otherwise, the figure may be somewhat limited in the near future unless Nintendo has some surprises in store.

6. Meta Knight Amiibo
Nintendo has already announced that Kirby and the Rainbow Curse will be supporting the Meta Knight figure. When scanned into the game, Kirby will get to wear the mask of its enigmatic rival in order to get a boost in attack power. Otherwise, no other game has been announced that will be directly supporting that particular figurine.
Meta Knight Amiibo is exclusive to Best Buy in the United States.
5. King Dedede Amiibo
Like Meta Knight, the King Dedede figure is also supported in Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. By wearing the hat of the villain, Kirby will get an increase in maximum health. Aside from the Wii U game, however, there have been no other announced upcoming game with compatibility support. The last traditional game, Kirby: Triple Deluxe, came out for the Nintendo 3DS last year. So it may take some time for the next Kirby release following the Wii U title.

4. Sheik Amiibo
For the uninformed, Sheik is the alter ego of Princess Zelda. Aside from Ocarina of Time, she has not appeared in any other game in The Legend of Zelda series. Still, you can use her figurine to unlock a weapon rated by at least three stars in Hyrule Warriors. It will also most likely get some sort of direct support in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda Wii U videogame, which is due for release sometime in 2015.

3. Toon Link Amiibo
Toon Link was last seen in The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD, a remaster that came out for the Wii U in 2013. Thankfully, Nintendo has been using cartoon version of Link the same way as the regular version. As a result, you will be able to unlock the same spinner weapon in Hyrule Warriors. Not to mention that the upcoming The Legend of Zelda Wii U game will most likely use the same figurine in some direct way as well.

2. Shulk Amiibo
Nintendo is surprisingly giving plenty of support for the Xenoblade franchise after mishandling the Wii release of the first game. The company is porting the original game, Xenoblade Chronicles, to the New Nintendo 3DS, a redesigned of the handheld that includes Amiibo support. They will also release Xenoblade Chronicles X for the Wii U by the end of this year. These two titles will most likely support the Shulk figure, which makes buying him a no brainer.
The Shulk Amiibo is exclusive to GameStop.
1. Lucario Amiibo
Nintendo has a habit of releasing multiple Pokemon games, including mainline titles, every year. So it will be a safe bet to purchase the Lucario Amiibo if you want to get the most out of the third wave of releases. Even if you don’t take into account the 3DS RPGs, Pokken Tournament (which stars Lucario as one of the fighters) will most likely be released in the near future for the Wii U as well. Add in other possible spin-offs and you have a lot of potential uses.
Lucario is exclusive to Toys R Us in the United States.Of course, if you have the cash, you can simply buy all of the third Amiibo wave releases.
