Nintendo has announced a Limited Edition Bundle for The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, which you can preorder right now with this link on Amazon (the standalone release is also available here). The special package comes with a Skull Kid figure, a copy of the videogame along with a cool-looking box (which includes a window for the figurine) to store all the content. So is the new product worth buying? Let’s take a look at several factors.
The Core Game
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was considered to be one of the best games ever. The follow-up to Ocarina of Time plays similarly to its predecessor although it does come with some cool twists. For one, you can manipulate time as you will be playing the same three days over and over again. Along with trying to stop the moon from crashing down, you can also mingle with the citizens of Termina, which leads to a lot of interesting stories and quests.
Moreover, Link has can collect and wear certain masks to gain new abilities. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is considered the most mature and difficult installment in the Zelda franchise. A lot of fans also considered it to be their favorite due to its uniqueness. If you haven’t played the game yet, then you should definitely consider getting the Limited Edition Bundle.
Availability of Previous Versions
Of course, you don’t really need to buy the 3DS remake in order to play The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. The original version came out at the end of the Nintendo 64’s lifespan in 2000. It was then ported to the Gamecube in 2003 as part of The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition, which also came with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It was also ported to the Wii in 2009 via the Virtual Console service.
The Nintendo 64 cartridge and The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition disc are no longer in print. So, unless you want the digital version, the only way to buy a physical version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask without paying astronomical prices is with the 3DS remake.
The Enhancements
Unlike the Nintendo 64, Gamecube and Wii releases, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D won’t be a simple port. Nintendo decided to take advantage of the 3DS hardware to provide a graphics overhaul in addition to using the touch screen and gyroscope controls. The development team also took the opportunity to tweak the finishing mini-game and some boss battles. When it is all said and done, the 3DS version should end up being the definitive edition.
The Skull Kid Figure
The last piece of the puzzle in the Skull Kid Figure. For the uninformed, the character is the antagonist in the videogame. Even though he was only part of one game in the Zelda series, he remains one of the most iconic individuals. The figurine does an excellent job at capturing the unique mask and wardrobe worn by the character. So it should look nice wherever you decide to place it.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D Limited Edition Bundle is coming out on the same day as the standalone version of the videogame. The product is definitely worth picking up, especially if you are a fan of the series. If you aren’t into figures, you can also buy the cheaper standalone release.
