Uses for Star Fragments
Although Star Fragments can be sold for rubies or use as ingredients for recipes, this type of material is best used for upgrading your armor from the Great Fairy Fountains. Below are armor sets in Breath of the Wild that require at least one Star Fragment at one level or another:
- Wind Set
- Hero Set
- Time Set
- Twilight Set
- Wild Set
- Ancient Set
- Sky Set
There are also several single armor pieces that require Star Fragments in upgrading:
- Topaz Earrings
- Diamond Circlet
- Ruby Circlet
- Sapphire Circlet
- Sheik’s Mask
Location #1:
Star Fragments can be seen falling from the night sky. The material is also a rare drop from Silver Lynels. While both of these methods provide unlimited fragments, they can also be time consuming. Fortunately, there are easier ways to getting the items.
One of which is located in Lurelin Village. The city can be found in the southeast era of the map. 
Feed the dog in the village food (such as apple) and the canine will eventually lead you to a general area of a buried treasure. From there, use your Magnesis Rune ability to locate the treasure and then pull it out from the ground. Open the chest to get your reward. 
Location #2:
Another Star Fragment is also available at the Woodland Stable, which is located northwest of Hyrule Castle. 
Talk to a kid named Shamae to initiate the Ballon Fight side quest. You can complete this task by attaching two Octo Balloons (which are dropped by the Octorok enemies) to the barrel nearest to Shamae. After successfully finishing the quest, you will get a fragment as a reward. 
Location #3:
There is another fragment located at Thyphlo Ruins, a perpetually dark forest located just north of the Great Hyrule Forest. This is also where the Ketoh Wawai Shrine is located. 
Just south of the shrine are multiple treasure chests located on top of broken pillars. One of these contain a Star Fragment. Since the area is dark at all times, finding it may be a little tricky. Use the image directly below this paragraph as a guide (pay attention to the mini-map, which is pointed north). 
Location #4
The Outskirt Stable is also home to another fragment. This station is located southwest of Hyrule Field. 
From there, talk to Aliza, who can be found staring at a big tree right outside the stable, to initiate the My Hero side quest. To complete this task, you will need the Master Sword in your possession. The weapon can be found at Korok Forest although you will need 13 hearts in order to acquire it. The Korok Forest is hidden in the Great Hyrule Forest, which is located in the middle northern area of the map. After completing the My Hero quest, you will get a Star Fragment as a reward. 
Location #5
You can find a fragment at Snowfield Stable, which can be found west of Great Hyrule Forest. 
One you are there, find the dog next to the cooking pot. Start feeding the canine and it will eventually lead you towards a general area where a buried treasure chest is located. You can then use your Magnesis Rune ability to locate and pull out the chest containing the fragment. 
Location #6
A Star Fragment can also be found to the west of Spool Bight, which is located on the middle eastern edge of the map. To access the location easily, we highly recommend entering it from the north.
Once you get to the aforementioned area, you will notice a chest that is being guarded by several enemies. This treasure chest contains a Star Fragment. 
Star Fragments Farming Method #1
If you still need more fragments, you will have to farm for the rest. As we mentioned above, one of the methods is by killing the Silver Lynels. Lynels are mini-bosses that you can find sprinkled throughout the world map. There are several variants: the regular Lynel, White-Maned Lynel, Blue- Maned Lynel and the aforementioned Silver Lynel.
Only the Silver Lynel is capable of dropping a Star Fragment. This variant only appears after you defeat the other variants numerous times. It will replace the other types after the Blood Moon phase, so that you can find this enemy in the same areas as you found the others.
The Lynel is probably the toughest enemy in the game. The best strategy is to use your bow to perform a headshot. This will stun the Lynel, leaving it temporary open for melee attacks. The fight should be done in close range as the enemy will fire arrows at you at longer distances.
The Star Fragment is a rare drop from the Silver Lynel. Thus, this method of farming isn’t really worth it unless you are fighting this enemy for other drops.
Star Fragments Farming #2
The fastest Star Fragments farming method in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Star is by waiting for the stones to drop from the sky.
First, we recommend climbing all the way up to the Dueling Peaks. You can fast travel to it via the Shee Vaneer Shrine. Climb up the peak at the back of the shrine where the two statues are located. This is a great location for farming since there isn’t anything obstructing your view. 
From there, wait until night time. To accelerate the process, you can set up a makeshift campfire by first dropping some wood and then lighting it by fire via flint, fire arrows or by swinging a fire weapon at the dropped wood (third third option is the most efficient one in terms of resource usage). Alternatively, you can use another campfire and then warp to the Shee Vaneer Shrine.
At around 9:50 PM in the in-game clock, the moon will start to rise. Shortly after, a Star Fragment mayfall from the sky. You can identify it via a white streak. Once it land, the material will also shoot up a yellow light beam. Use you scope to mark where the fragment fell and then head for the location to collect your reward.
Afterwards, save and closed the game. Reboot the game, reload your save and then repeat the steps above.
