Are the Super Mario Amiibo figures worth buying?

Nintendo announced a second line of Amiibo figures, which will be based on the Super Mario series, early this year. The new batch is coming out at the same time as Mario Party 10, which is on the 20th of March in the United States. The characters from the set include Bowser, Luigi, Mario, Peach, Toad and Yoshi. So are any of these Amiibos worth buying? Find out in our latest buyer’s guide for the upcoming figures.

Bowser Amiibo

Nintendo decided to make a curious decision by releasing the Super Smash Bros. Bowser Amiibo in February, followed by the March launch of the Bowser figure from the Super Mario line. You can use this product in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (with an eventual patch) and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to train a “figure player.” You can also use Bowser to unlock a game board in the upcoming Mario Party 10.

The villain should be appearing in a lot of future games that have Mario as well. So, we certainly believe that the Bowser Amiibo is worth the purchase no matter which version you get (as you may prefer one pose over another). Luigi Amiibo

Luigi is one of the most useful Amiibos as he can be used to unlock a racing suit in Mario Kart 8 and a game board in Mario Party 10. Of course, you can also use the figure to build up an A.I. fighter for the two new Super Smash Bros. videogames. In terms of usage, Luigi is about as good as it gets.

Nintendo has two variants of the Amiibo, one from Super Smash Bros. and the other from the Super Mario series. We suggest getting the latter as it does not come with a distracting stand that is needed to hold the figure up. Preorder the new version here.super-mario-bros-luigi-amiibo

Mario Amiibo

Being the mascot of Nintendo, you can expect everyone’s favorite plumber to get plenty of usage in current and future games. He is used in the same capacity as Luigi in the above-mentioned Mario Kart, Mario Party and Super Smash Bros. releases. Nintendo will most likely add in Amiibo support for the upcoming Mario Maker as well.

The two versions of the Mario figurine have distinctive poses that are worth purchasing. He can be seen using a fireball in the Smash line while the Super Mario statue is a lot more friendly looking. So, it really boils down to your tastes if you are planning to buy one over the other. Peach Amiibo

Like Mario and Luigi, the Peach figure can also be used in Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. So you will be getting plenty of current and future releases of her statue.

Nintendo also has two official variants of the Peach Amiibo. However, the one from the Smash line is a little fragile as there have been reports of the figure breaking. Therefore, it may be best to wait for the Super Mario variation as it seems a lot sturdier. Pre-purchase the upcoming Peach figurine via this page.super-mario-bros-peach-amiibo

Toad Amiibo

Toad is the only new Amiibo release from the Super Mario line. So far, only one game supports the figurine as you can unlock hidden 8-bit icons of the character in stages with Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. Unfortunately, Nintendo has not yet revealed what will happen if you managed to find these Easter Eggs.

As a result, unless you like how the Toad Amiibo looks or a big Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker fan, you probably won’t find much use with the figurine. If you are still interested, you can preorder the Amiibo here. super-mario-bros-toad-amiibo

Yoshi Amiibo

Last but certainly not least is the Yoshi figure. The green dinosaur is already compatible with the same currently available games as the Mario, Luigi and Peach statues. You should also be able to use it in the upcoming Wii U exclusive, Yoshi’s Wolly World. So this statue is also a great choice if you want to get the most uses out of your purchase.

The Yoshi Amiibo looks great whether regardless of your choice between the Super Smash Bros. or Super Mario poses. You can preorder the latter using this link.super-mario-bros-yoshi-amiiboAs mentioned above, the Super Mario Amiibo series is going to launch on the 20th of March in the North American region.
