Is the Yoshi’s Woolly World Amiibo Bundle worth purchasing?

Nintendo will be bundling a Green Yarn Yoshi Amiibo with the upcoming Wii U exclusive, Yoshi’s Woolly World. So is the game and figure set worth a purchase? Before you can come up with your own decision, you can check out a few potential factors with our buying guide below.

Pricing

You will save a little bit of cash when buying the bundle as opposed to getting the two items separately. Of course, there is a huge probability that the Green Yarn Yoshi Amiibo could rise in pricing based on the availability of previous figures. The same also holds true for the bundle.

You can check out the current prices for the bundle, as well as the standalone game, with the following links on Amazon: Yoshi’s Woolly World and Yoshi’s Woolly World Amiibo Bundle.

Yoshi’s Woolly World

Yoshi’s Woolly World has actually been out since June 26th in Europe and July 16th in Japan. The game has been received quite well with some solid, but not spectacular, review scores.

In terms of gameplay, the game plays similarly to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island where Yoshi can swallow enemies to spawn eggs to use as projectile weapons. For the new game, the eggs have been replaced by yarn balls while the level design also adds some yarn elements as well. Fans of Yoshi, or the 2D platforming genre in general, should be able to enjoy Woolly World.WiiU_Yoshi_sWoollyWorld_07_Course1

Special Amiibo

The Amiibo being included in the bundle is not your typical one. Instead of being made of plastic, the Green Yarn Yoshi is created using actual yarn. With that said, it still function the same as you can scan the bottom using the NFC reader of the Wii U Gamepad.

Doing so will unlock Double Yoshi, giving you another character to control (or you can use a second player if you are playing cooperatively) in Woolly World. So, in terms of functionality, the Amiibo doesn’t really add that much to the game. With that said, Yarn Yoshi is still one of nicest looking Amiibos when compared to the others.amiibo_YoshisWoollyWorld_01Aside from Yoshi’s Woolly World, the same Yarn Amiibo is also compatible with Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Chibi-Robo Zip Lash, Hyrule Warriors, Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Super Mario Maker, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. For the 3DS games, you will need either the New 3DS or the NFC reader accessory if you have a regular 3DS handheld system.

Other Yarn Yoshi Amiibos

One potential drawback in the bundle is that customers will only be getting the standard-sized Green Yarn Yoshi. Thus, you have to buy the light blue, pink and mega size variants separately if you want those instead.

Recap

Just like the other Amiibos, Green Yarn Yoshi doesn’t offer much in terms of in-game functionality for Yoshi’s Woolly World (or any other games). With that said, the Amiibo is one of the better looking ones on the market.

If you are planning on buying Yoshi’s Woolly World, which appears to be a solid platformer, along with the Green Yarn Yoshi Amiibo, then you should definitely get the bundle if you want to save some cash.

The Yoshi’s Woolly World Amiibo Bundle, which you can preorder with this link, will be made available on the 16th of October in the North American region.
