Top five of the best PlayStation Move compatible light gun games for PS3

In an attempt to try to tap into the Wii market, Sony launched the PlayStation Move for the PS3 in 2010. The controller brought motion gaming to the last-gen console, which resulted in a lot of great light gun games being developed and ported. So what are the top arcade shooting games that you should be buying? Take a look in our top five list featuring the best PlayStation Move compatible light gun games for the PlayStation 3.

First off, there are a few accessories that we suggest you purchase to get the optimal experience for PS3 light gun games. Assuming you already have a PlayStation Eye and PlayStation Move, you should also look for the PlayStation Move Navigation Controller along with the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter. The Sharp Shooter will make you feel like you are holding a rifle and makes it easier to reload. You can buy all the required accessories with these next Amazon links: PlayStation Move, PlayStation Eye, PlayStation Move Navigation Controller and PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter.

Now that you have gotten the right setup, take a look at our top five recommended PlayStation Move light gun games below.

5. The Shoot

The Shoot came out shortly after the launch of the motion controller. It offers a somewhat unique twist compared to your typical light gun experience as the stages take place on movie sets. As a result, you get diverse settings such as a giant robot invasion, haunted house, underwater aquarium and the wild west. The environments are also destructible, adding another element when you are trying to take down the opposition. While it may not be the best on-rails shooter, The Shoot is still quite enjoyable.

4. Time Crisis: Razing Storm

Time Crisis: Razing Storm brings the classic arcade shooter series to the PlayStation 3. Along with the port, which includes a traditional first-person shooting campaign and competitive multiplayer along with the on-rail mode, the disc also includes Time Crisis 4 and Deadstorm Pirates. So, if you missed out on the Time Crisis series before, the collection is a great place to start for what many considered to be one of the best light gun series.

3. Dead Space Extraction HD

Dead Space ended up being one of the best new IP of last generation as it combines the survival-horror genre with the unique space station setting. Extraction is a direct prequel showing off the events that occurred before the first mainline installment. The gameplay itself differentiates between others as you can use you kinesis abilities to grab and launch objects to defeat the alien monsters. With an engaging story and lengthy campaign, the title should provide plenty of value.

Dead Space Extraction HD came out on January 25 in 2011. It is available on the Sony Entertainment Store in addition to being a part of the Dead Space 2 Limited Edition, which you can buy with this link.

2. House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut

Another game filled with content is House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut. Headstrong Games decide to go above and beyond by adding in stories and settings based on grindhouse B-movies. In addition to a lengthy campaign by light gun shooting standards (the Extended Cut version got two new levels as well), there are also a ton of other content and unlockables. While it may not be your traditional House of the Dead experience (although part 3 and 4 are also on the Sony Entertainment Store and compatible with PlayStation Move if you want to check them out), Overkill does more than enough to stand on its own.

House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut was released on the 25th of October in 2011. Purchase the PS3 version with this page.

1. Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection

Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection contains Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. The compilation retells the events from the mainline games in the series. You will also get to play through exclusive scenarios for mysterious characters like Ada Wong and Albert Wesker. Aside from the on-rails shooting, you will get sequences where you can use melee weapons and dodge incoming enemy attacks. For Resident Evil fans and enthusiast of the light gun genre, Resident Evil Chronicles HD Collection is a must buy.

The PS3 ports of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles came out on June 26 in 2012. The two games were only released on the Sony Entertainment Store in the United States.
