How to cure and prevent the disease status effect in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

One of the worst status effects that you can be infected with in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is disease. If you are having a hard time finding a cure for it during battle, you can check out our strategy guide below.

About Disease

Disease is a status effect that makes characters non-healable with spells nor items. Furthermore, every time they get hit, their maximum HP will go down. The maximum hit points will eventually drop to just 1, even if the character is knocked out and then revived. Not to mention that the effect will remain permanent until it can be cured.

Needless to say, you are in big trouble if your party is infected with the disease status effect and you don’t have any curing options on hand.

Option #1: Save Crystal

A save crystal will cure the disease status effect. With that said, you will be out of luck if you aren’t in range of one.

Option #2: Remedy with Remedy Lore 3

A remedy normally does not cure disease. However, you will be able to level up the item via the Remedy Lore 3 license, which can be found on the Archer, Machinist and Shikari boards. When learned, the character with the Remedy Lore 3 license will be able to heal any allies of the disease status with the Remedy item.

Option #3: Cleanse

If you want a spell in order to cure the disease status effect, you will need Cleanse. This spell can be found in The Terraced Bank section of Cerobi Steppe. The chest is on the left side of the square-shaped rock located in the middle of the area. It lays on top of another chest as well as a trap, so make sure to come prepare.

Furthermore, you have a 20% chance of getting the spell. If you don’t get it, leave the zone and then come back to spawn a new chest.

In order to use Cleanse, a character will need to learn the White Magick 5 License, which can be obtained from the following Zodiac Jobs: White Mage, Red Battlemage (requires Shemhazai Esper) and Knight (requires Mateus Esper).

Option #4: Serum

There is another way to cure disease without the need of learning any licenses. Serum can be purchased from the air ship that travels between Nalbina Fortress to Archades. To buy it, go to the Aerodome at Nalbina Fortress and then choose to travel at leisure to Archades.

One of the two shops aboard that ship will sell Serum (as well as Remedy).

Prevent Disease

If you want to prevent the disease status from infecting your team, you will need the Bubble status effect. One of the ways to obtain this is via a spell. The Bubble spell can be bought at the Clan Provisioner shop at the Muthru Bazaar in Rabanastre. You will need a rank of Riskbreaker (complete 16 Hunts) in order to buy that spell. Furthermore, you will also need a Green Magick 3 License, which can be obtained from the Black Mage, Red Battlemage, Time Battlemage and White Mage boards.

Another way to get the Bubble status is by equipping the Bubble Belts. These accessories can be found in the chests of the following areas:

  • Crossover C at Henne Mines
  • Ice Field of Clearsight at Feywood
  • Abyssal – North at Pharos – Subterra

Bubble Belts can also be obtained as a reward for completing the Antlion Infestation as well as bought from the Bazaar after selling two Battlewyrm Carapaces and one Adamantite.

Along with preventing the inflicting of the disease status, the Bubble status will also double the character’s HP. So, it is a great buff to have at all times.

As you can see above, it is a little trickier finding a cure for disease in Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age when compared to the original game. Hopefully, our guide will help you out.
